About VeloDCity: a Washington Area Bicycling Meetup Group

Many thanks for your interest in this group. Our group has many riders of different levels from the newbie to the highly trained racer, so I think nobody will have any problems fitting in. We ride all the trails in the Washington Metropolitan area from the Anacostia to the grand Washington Old Dominion Trail, popular destinations such as Hain's Points, the Arboretum, Mount Vernon and many more. Rides are currently described in terms of 'distance', 'pace' and 'terrain'.

Distance - is always discussed in terms of miles unless otherwise noted. In most cases the total distance is diplayed first along with the single one way distance. For example: the Mount Vernon Route is 36 total miles/ 18 miles one way. If the route is a loop then only the total distance will be displayed.

Pace - describes the average speed/tempo of the ride.
easy/leisurely (12 - 14 mph) - as the name implies, talk have conversations, enjoy the ride

medium (14 - 17 mph) - It's the level between easy and fast. The majority of rides will be at this level.

fast (17- 20 mph) - think fewer conversations like 'hi', 'feel good?", 'huh?', etc.

50/50 - The ride will be divided into two or more groups. One group will be traveling faster than the other to cover the longer distances.

Terrain - describes the elavation(s) of the ride.
Flat, Rolling, Hilly, Mountains

Course - unpaved path, bike path, roads/streets

Anybody can and is encouraged to participate in any ride without regards to your current biking skills or bike. Nobody is dropped, there are several rest stops scheduled in every ride so that everybody can catch up, stretch and catch their breaths. The rides are meant to be fun so relax, meet some new friends and enjoy the ride.
