Meet at Shady Grove metro for a 50 miler at moderate pace (equivalent to Potomac Pedallers C/CC) to Baldwin's pub by the railroad at Sykesville, MD. Bring $12-$15 for brunch/lunch. Sign-ups are limited to 15 riders, as a larger group will be way too unwieldy at Baldwin's.

Let's take the 'Roads to Salvation': Zion, Howard Chapel, Jennings Chapel. then up to Woodbine and over to Sykesville for a lunch stop at Baldwin's Station, which we discovered on last October's ride. From Shady Grove Metro this gives 26 miles to Baldwin's, with a return of 25 for a 51 miles round trip. Course is undulating. Last time the average pace was 15mph with 17-18mph on the flat. Should be easily within the range of rider's who are roaring fit from a season of Sportives and challenging rides. Road bike riders with cleats will be happiest on this trip.

Route in two maps here (coz Google Maps thinks the bridge on Howard Chapel is out. It isn't).

Bring cash for the lunch because we don't want the embarrassment, hassle and delay of having to juggle multiple credit cards for a single bill. Note I'm limiting this to 15 riders because too many people at the restaurant is just too much of a bear, and hideously slow. So if you know you are NOT coming, please do others a favour and de-list yourself in plenty of time before the event.

Mild precipitation will not stop this ride.

Stephen, The cue sheets appear to have some wrong turns when compared with the map attached to them (Daisy Rd and W Friendship Rd) plus a couple of extraneous turns (Bushy Park Rd).

Don't forget that Sunday is also the Marine Corps Marathon. The race starts at 8 AM in Arlington. Metro will open early, but it doesn't appear that their website reflects additional Red Line service heading north to Shady Grove, just extra Blue Line trains.

They are promising thunderstorms on Saturday and into the night, then a glorious sunny day on Sunday. Early morning residual sprinkles will not put us off on Sunday.

Keeping my fingers crossed that they have the weather forecast right! I need a couple of short rides to test out new components before Sunday.

    •  Another great event! Started out a little chilly, but those hills quickly warmed us up. The spot was great - nice charm and great food - my french toast was to die for...to bad I couldn't finish it. Stephen seems to have a knack for picking good restaurants! After lunch we all cooled down and were cold again....but that quickly changed as our route called for an immediate monster hill.....despite the hills it was a great event: beautiful day, nice company...simply said, 'another great event!'
    •  What a fun ride! The weather was nice, the hills were fun and challenging, and the delicious brunch at the charming Baldwin's Station made it even better. The company of VeloDCity riders was great, as usual, and the event was well organized. Thanks for organizing it, Stephen, very well done.
    •  Chilly start. Roller coaster ride to Baldwin's. We got there when it opened and had the place to ourselves for a while. Brunch as usual excellent. Usual headwind out AND home :>. Sorry to hear about Gregg's pot hole event. Hope the road rash goes and your dignity return s to normal.
    •  Great lunch. Going to Baldwin's was a breeze but the ride felt a lot more challenging on the way home from Baldwin's. Thank you for organizing yet another great ride Stephen.
    •  The turnaround was very, very easy. The hills kicked me squarely in the tailbone. Good lunch spot at the turnaround.
    •  A good ride with a congenial group. I enjoyed doing a hillier ride than I usually push myself to do. Thanks Stephen for setting this up and getting us an excellent restaurant for the halfway point!
    •  Fine dining half-way into a ride can't be beat ;-)
