Looking for something different? How about a ride in the country where you can find a scenic roads, cultural performance center, spectacular 'mcMansions' and hill or two. This is it. Unlike our regular rides that has a single direction and a turnaround point, this one will be a 35 mile loop that starts/ends at the Dunn Loring metro station(orange line). The route includes long stretches on the WOD Trail, open suburban/country roads and the Reston Parkway trail before we return to to the WOD Trail. The ride is considered challenging because of the hilly terrain and the open road that we'll be traveling on however don't let this discourage you from participating. The local scenery is very much worth it. Total Distance: 35 miles Pace: Med(12 - 15 mph) Terrain: rolling to hilly, including Clark's Crossing Road and the brutal 12% grade of Beach Mill Road. Starting/Ending Point: Dunn Loring metro station(orange line) Highlights: furry creatures, mansions and more. - HELMETS ARE REQUIRED! - All rides are 'No Drop', for nobody will be left behind. - ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable are recommended . - Snacks and liquids can be purchased. - The event will be canceled/postponed if it rains. - Email me if you have any questions

Ride synopsis at the end of the text. In the interests of pushing further into the unexplored North Maryland hinterlands this is an extension of the Baldwin's Turnaround route that takes us a total of 100k - so you can bag another Metric Century. We start from Shady Grove Metro and take the Salvation Roads, peeling off at Daisy, then up to Woodbine and on to Winfield and Route 26 East down to Eldersburg, turning back South to our most exciting new watering hole at Baldwin's Station in Sykesville. Back home on Salvation roads, boozed-up or juiced as you will. That will be 37 miles before lunch and 25 miles after. This will be a C/CC ride (check the Potomac Pedallers site if you don't know what this means) where we cruise at 18mph or so on the flats and average 14-15mph overall. Maryland roads are a roller coaster ride, so hills are frequent but short (but frequent). A road bike with cleats (or toe clips) is necessary for this ride. If you've done 30 milers or more this year, you'll make it. If you have only pootled around town or on bike trails for 20 milers or less, you will not make it. If this is your first ride with this meetup you are welcome, but you need to convince me of the state of your fitness and equipment before the ride. You can do this by signing up with a (sufficiently) informative comment, or email me if you are unsure. Stephen_N. Ride Synopsis: Start Time: 8:45am. Location: Shady Grove Metro, newspaper stands on right side (as you go North). Distance: 61 miles round-trip. Terrain: Maryland roller coasters. Pace: "C/CC" 13-14 mph average, about 18mph on the flats. Equipment: Road bikes with cleats. Rider Qualifications: At least a couple of 25 milers in the previous month. Hey Everyone, For those who are not going to do the Tour de Carrol this Saturday, I'm planning a ride on the WO&D trail. I'm planning to go from Dunn Loring to Herndon and back. It is about 12 miles each way. (Kudos for pointing this out!) There is an ice cream store and small general store in Herndon. If the group wants more miles, we'll head on to Ashburn making it 20ish miles each way and eat at the store in Ashburn. Either way, it will be a perfect time to get a snack and rest in the shade. I'll send out my phone number on Friday.... As always, please remember... - Distance if we go to Herndon (12 miles one way, 24 miles total distance) - Distance if we go to Ashburn (20 miles one way, 40 miles round trip) - Pace: medium 13-14 mph - NO ONE gets left behind - HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR PARTICIPATION , - ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable are highly recommended . - Snacks and liquids will be available for purchase. - Email me if you have any questions See you Saturday! Michelle
