Looking for something different? How about a ride in the country where you can find a scenic roads, cultural performance center, spectacular 'mcMansions' and hill or two. This is it.

Unlike our regular rides that has a single direction and a turnaround point, this one will be a 35 mile loop that starts/ends at the Dunn Loring metro station(orange line). The route includes long stretches on the WOD Trail, open suburban/country roads and the Reston Parkway trail before we return to to the WOD Trail.

The ride is considered challenging because of the hilly terrain and the open road that we'll be traveling on however don't let this discourage you from participating. The local scenery is very much worth it.

Total Distance: 35 miles
Pace: Med
Terrain: rolling to hilly

Starting/Ending Point: Dunn Loring metro station(orange line)

Highlights: furry creatures, mansions and more.

- HELMETS ARE REQUIRED!

- ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable are recommended .
- Snacks and liquids can be purchased.
- The event will be canceled/postponed if it rains.

Every Thursday evening that's possible from April 24 until the light gives out in September, let's gather at 7 Locks and Macarthur to do individually timed circuits of the Macarthur - Clara Barton course. It is exactly 10K around, and flat except for the transitions between Macarthur-CB , and then CB-Macarthur (except for the little rise going under the Beltway at CB). The objective is not to 'race', i.e. not to compare against each other, but rather to compare against your own best time, from week-to-week. Some weeks we can do 2 laps to make it a 20K.

Remember: nobody is left behind, because we make our own pace, and always come back to the same starting point.

This event is cross-posted with the Montgomery County Meetup.

This is a metro-to-metro ride with a ferry in the middle: Shady Grove to Dunn Loring via White's Ferry. On the Maryland side we take River Road up to White's, one of the most favoured cyclist roads in Maryland. After the Ferry we link to Leesburg for the lunch stop. Getting on the W&OD we finish up at Dunn Loring, so we all take metro home . . . wherever that is. Total distance about 56 miles.

UPDATE April 14th:

I actually rode the full distance last weekend. The ferry ride across the Potomac at White's is always magical. The ferry cost is $1 for rider and bike. The traffic volume on the most exposed stretch, the 3 miles into Leesburg, was quite low. There's an interesting coffee shop on Market Street in Leesburg, next to the Tally Ho cinema. There are several 7 elevens along the way. And the revised distance is a straight 100K. It was a fun ride. Hope it will be more fun with a jolly group.
