This is a 40 miler round trip from Shady Grove Metro to Austin's Cafe, at the gym in the dead center of Poolesville. After two sticky traffic lights and a few miles of suburbs, we are out in the open, pedalling by the horse farms and Buddhist sanctuaries of upper River Road. Arriving in Poolesville at the 20 mile point, we stop at Austin's, where they do a mean latte. The return is by a variation on the outward route, that avoids Route 28. We should be back at Shady Grove by mid-afternoon. Here is the route: http://maps.google.c om/maps?f=d&hl=e n&geocode=&s addr=Metro+Shady+Gro ve+Station&daddr =gaither+rd+and+redl and+to:gude+and+gait her+to:fallsgrove+bl vd+to:piney+meetingh ouse+and+shady+grove +to:travilah+and+riv er+to:river+and+hugh es+to:fisher+and+bud d+to:partnership+and +river+to:turkey+foo t+and+darnestown+to: turkey+foot+and+trav ilah+to:fallsgrove+b lvd+to:gude+and+gait her+to:redland+and+g aither+to:Redland+Bl vd+%26+MD-355,+Montg omery,+Maryland,+Uni ted+States&mra=p e&mrcr=13&sl l=39.097295,-77.2864 15&sspn=0.178518 ,0.318604&ie=UTF 8&z=12&om=0& pw=2 Email Stephen_N, for further details and if you are in two minds as to whether you can do this ride. - All rides are 'No Drop', for nobody will be left behind. - Helmets , ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable will be required . - Snacks and liquids can be purchased. - The event will be canceled/postponed if it rains.

Practice your riding at one of the area's best criterium 'track' in the area: Hain's Point. A single lap around this famous landmark peninsula is approximately 3.25 miles so multiply that times however many laps you choose to do and you have your total distance. The group ride will actually start from the Eastern Market metro station to provide everybody a little warmup before we arrive at Hain's Point. Upon completion we can have an optional lunch at the Capital Grill on the grounds of the golf course. Starting/Finishing Point: Eastern Market Metro Station(blue/orange line) - Food and drinks can be purchased from the golf course grill. They serve hamburgers, hotdogs, fish sandwichs and sodas. Highlights: Head winds on one side, tail winds on the other - All rides are 'No Drop', for nobody will be left behind. - HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR PARTICIPATION. - ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable is highly recommended. - Snacks and liquids can be purchased. - The event will be cancelled/postponed if it rains. - Email me if you have any questions For more information, see http://www.nps.gov/

Looking for something different? How about a ride in the country where you can find a scenic roads, cultural performance center, spectacular 'mcMansions' and hill or two. This is it. Unlike our regular rides that has a single direction and a turnaround point, this one will be a 35 mile loop that starts/ends at the Dunn Loring metro station(orange line). The route includes long stretches on the WOD Trail, open suburban/country roads and the Reston Parkway trail before we return to to the WOD Trail. The ride is considered challenging because of the hilly terrain and the open road that we'll be traveling on however don't let this discourage you from participating. The local scenery is very much worth it. Total Distance: 35 miles Pace: Med Terrain: rolling to hilly Starting/Ending Point: Dunn Loring metro station(orange line) Highlights: furry creatures, mansions and more. - All rides are 'No Drop', for nobody will be left behind. - Helmets , ID, spare tube, bike lock/cable will be required . - Snacks and liquids can be purchased. - The event will be canceled/postponed if it rains. - Email me if you have any questions

Let's meet at 10:15 at the Key Bridge on the Rosslyn side where it intersects the Custis Trail for an easy/intermediate ride to Vienna, to snack at Whole Food and/or slurp at Starbs. You can take a little peek at the Antique shops at the intersection of the W&OD and Maple Avenue, should that take your fancy. The round trip from Key Bridge to Vienna and back is 22 miles. I will be setting out from Bethesda at 9:30 and trickling down the Capital Crescent Trail to meet you all at Key Bridge. Hardy earlier risers are welcome to join me there. We have been doing well at keeping the group together, under the No Drop principle. We continue in that vein for this ride too. Bring a bottle of liquid cheer for the ride, and enough snackables to tide you over to the Vienna Terminus. Stephen_N.
