I'd like to capitalize on the enthusiasm for the Blue Ridger by proposing a similar course profile with a start closer to home. If we start in Frederick we can go over Gambrill State Park road, over the plateau to Wolfsville then make for Smithsburg and connect with Civil War roads. This takes us over Raven Rock up to Sabillasville, then come back down to Frederick skating the edge of the ridge. Course profile looks like a roller coaster, it has 4000 feet of climbing over 56 miles.

Climbing is good for you and this course has lots. You won't get strong by avoiding it. It would be good to schedule this for early November, before the good weather and the light disappear.

Any reactions?

It sounds great, I'd love to do it! Let's get it on the calendar! Late Oct or early Nov works for me.

I've actually been looking to find some sort of ride in that area outside the CWC. So I'd be up for it.

Stephen,

I like the ideal! I also agree with your thoughts about climbing and would like to schedule more rides in the future pending an improved carpool system to give those folks without cars(such as myself) a chance to experience the misery and improve in the process.

Bests,

Okay I'm trying to figure the watering stops. There's the 7-11 at Smithsburg, about 1/3 of the way round and just before the Raven Rock 'on ramp'. Nothing commercial in that long lonely valley back of the Catoctin ridge. That's pretty much Blair Witch country in fact, isn't it? Maybe the start and finish should be at Starbs in Frederick.

Sounds fun.... I also agree the hills are good for you, therefore I would like practice on the hills more. I'm in anytime...!
