Greetings Good Folks,
I write this ride reminder as a very green and envious individual. You are going to participate in a very popular and well supported event in Saturday's Seagull Century Ride. The ride will start from the campus of Salisbury University. For you first timers, this will be the flattest and possibly fastest century event that you will ever participate in. I recommend that you good folks try to gather near the start line around 7:20am and start no later than 7:45am if you're riding the full century and 8:00am if you're riding the metric. Please look out for each other, I provided a list of known bib numbers to assist in this but you may also want to make a print out of the RSVP list to help identify your fellow members. Things to Look Out For: - The ride is pancake flat however look out for the head and cross winds, they can be very brutal. - Look for the speed train with the some of the groups fastest riders: James(aka Superman), Willie, Matt and many others. - Known Bib Numbers: #2187 - Chip #0359 - Chuck #0026 - Lucy #2317 - Michelle #0748 - Stephen, assistant organizer #6780 - Steve - Enjoy the apple/peach pie served with ice cream at the second rest stop. - Share your ride experience when you return home. Everybody(especially me) would like to hear how you did! Finally, if there is anything I can't emphasize enough: ENJOY THE RIDE and HAVE FUN! Many Regards, gregg |

That was a very worthwhile ride. Aimed for 20mph riding time, just missed it by finishing with 5hrs 11m. Rider's high comes when pedalling long flat distances at high cadence. Got plenty of that. Got cramp too.
Colin says winds were torturous. Certainly it was blowy on Assateague. For the rest of it I found the aero-bars very effective, and able to pedal almost as fast into a 3/4 head wind as when it was behind. So Colin, I recommend aero-bars. Next stop Baldwin's a more gentle 50 miler with amusing roller coasters. |
