While the average VeloDCity ride don't involve pelotons, echelons or even pace lines. There are some basic guidelines that all participants should be aware of and follow.
On the Road:
- Obey all traffic signs.
- Ride no more than 2 riders across and ride to the right side of the road. This allows drivers and other cyclists to safely pass.
- Signal your intentions. Use hand signals to indicate making a turn, slowing, etc.
- Point out obstructions or other potential hazards to fellow riders.
- Ride approximately a wheel's length(1.5 - 2.5 ft) behind each other. When the roads are wet, ride (3 - 4ft) behind each other.
- Look out for each other, give assistance when necessary.
- Notify ride leader(s) so the pace could be slowed down or stopped.
- Ride sensibly, ride predictably.
- When riding, Turn off music devices or minimize the volume in order to hear any questions or sudden instructions.
Multi-use trails such as the WOD Trail, Mount Vernon, Capital Crescent have their own rules and guidelines. Here are some general ones that apply to all:

- Horses, then pedestrians have right of way
- Ride to right side and pass on the left
- Move slowly when trail is congested or when passing
- Give an audible warning when passing(bell, horn, "ON YOUR LEFT", etc)
