I am doing a long haul cycling trip around Ireland for a charity called Project Rescue. I have to raise at least $3,000 by June. The money is used to buy girls/women out of sex slavery in India and to help them recover and heal. I could go on and on about how wonderful this cause is, but I'll try to just keep this message short.

I was wondering if anyone out there knows which touring bike will be the best. There are 6 of us going. We are camping nearly the whole trip, so we will be loading our bikes up with all of our camping supplies and everything we need for the trip. It is just us and our gear out on the road......

So I will need a touring bike that can handle my 125 pounds (give or take 15 pounds....I won't say which way) and all of our gear that I estimate will be about 50 or so pounds. As it will be in Ireland, I need something that will be able to withstand steep hills.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Any helpful training advice would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks so much!!

Kind Regards,

Kelly Chase

Hey Kelly,
So proud of you and that you are part of our group! I'm sure you'll get lots of feedback from some of our group members, but getting the right bike for yourself is really more of a personal thing. If you don't have a bike, that is one thing that you need to consider getting real soon. If you're not sure what to get, I honestly recommend you go to REI. They are the ONLY sports/bike shop that will allow you to purchase a bike, and return it if you are not happy with it. You may find something there that you might keep, but if not...you'll at least get a good feel of the different bikes. cool
Maybe one of our fellow members has a spare bike you can use while you are shopping for your own. I'd like to get back out to biking with you guys, but my life & house is in a bit of a shambles, so until I get that in order....then I'll be back to biking with all of you.
Meanwhile, members, please support the other Organizers when they post an event. Otherwise, if you promise to show and don't, it's easy for us to get discouraged and not bother posting. crying Also, members, please help support Kelly in her charity. What a great heart for a great cause! biggrin Sydnie

i worked for cannondale for 5 years and still ride their bikes, i would reccomend them highly, as several of my friends have taken their bikes over 1000,s of miles. also you should check into the local shop and ask for a sponserchip, they might help you with the costs, it's a great thing you are doing, good luck to u and your group.
